Lastly, the entire #monitoring and #observability industry is a shower of eejits with very few honest thinkers in it, it's dominated by sales departments and people going for their "thought leadership" badges for their annual performance reviews.

An Open University course on the basics of control theory is worth more than all of the conferences combined and a metric tonne of salt is required for any of the talks.

You won't get it right first time, plan to be revising constantly forever, but less frequently over time as stuff gets closer to "good enough"

Doing all this in code is nice but honestly gets in the way at the start so I wouldn't bother till I had something good enough to stop working on for a week or two, then I'd do it if I did it at all (I've never seen observability as code pay off more than spending more time modelling)
