@Tupp_ed This thing where the DPC spends five years thinking about your complaint, puts it on hold, runs an own-volition case, issues a judgement on that one then gives you all of two weeks to say if you want to continue with your now-paused-for-several-years complaint; is that a new thing or is that a standard sort of procedure in your experience?

Since June 2018, twenty-two emails saying, in one form or another, "hold on there, we're working on it" about a DPC #GDPR complaint.

Today, a judgement in their own case against the RCC which says that no, I don't have a right to erasure of personal special category data from a filing system held by a data controller, and I have 14 days to file an appeal.

I wonder, if I sent an email saying my response would take three months, would they wait five years for that response?

It really is quite something to see the DPC actually state out loud that she will take account of Canon law when considering a #GDPR complaint against the Catholic Church.

Also, turns out, chronological record sorting means you don't have a filing system in the eyes of the Church so baptismal records are not covered by the GDPR in the eyes of Rome. The DPC disagrees....

And apparently, even though the DPC believes it's your data, and GDPR applies, you have no right of erasure.
